Erno Rubik and the Invention of the Rubik's Cube
Saturday July 11, 2009
Hungarian inventor Erno Rubik is famous for the invention of the Rubik's Cube, the challenging puzzle game which became a global sensation and has since become the world's top-selling toy. Surprisingly, when Rubik first approached toy companies with his invention, they were cool to his idea and told him that the puzzle was too difficult for mainstream appeal. I imagine the first toy company exec who turned down Rubik and his cube is still kicking himself for his lack of foresight. He'll be right at home with the record company exec who turned down The Beatles and the US car company exec who turned down the VW Beetle.
