Newspaper Puzzles in Peril?

While sales of puzzle books remain strong (you don't bring your laptop to the bathroom), it's just not the same as a daily puzzle in the local rag which for many people becomes part of their daily routine. Today, as newspapers struggle with fewer subscribers and dwindling ad revenues, many have migrated the puzzle pages to the Web or eliminated them altogether. What does the future hold for our daily paper puzzle?

Buying a daily paper is cheaper than buying printer ink and never creates frustration by jamming. It ends in the compost heap where mold is desirable.
I would have asked the questions slightly differently. Should newspapers give up their crossword puzzles to save money or space? Answer, no. Also, I always wonder who the “everybody” is who only get their news online — I live in a college town, and I still see undergraduates even doing the crossword puzzle in printed version of the campus daily paper — and I suspect they have read some of that paper, too!
