Before You Buy Word Games

Word games have been around ever since a certain gentleman said, "Madam, I'm Adam." They educate, entertain, and exercise the brain. Children play them in order to develop certain skills and they help older generations to maintain theirs. However, be sure the game you buy is suited to the age and capabilities of the recipient.

Fun or frustrating?
Giving children a game that is beyond their mental grasp can lead to feelings of inadequacy and may turn them off to this wonderful form of mental exercise. Conversely, they'll soon lose interest in any game that is too easy. Choose a game carefully. Check the manufacturer's age recommendations.

Active or passive personality?
Some people may prefer to match wits against an opponent while others will opt for less competitive games such as crossword puzzles.

On the computer or on the table?
Computers offer a myriad of playing possibilities and most games nowadays come in electronic versions. However, some games are more fun to play around a table than around a computer screen.
