06/12/06 - Tangrams: Timeless puzzles for all ages
Sounds simple enough. Just arrange the seven geometric shapes (Tans) so that they match the different figures. And, indeed, some of the puzzles are very simple to solve. However, other shapes can be frustratingly elusive. That's why these puzzles have such a broad appeal and are accessible to young children as well as adults.

06/06/06 - Wordplay: The Documentary
This film focuses on the man most associated with crossword puzzles, New York Times puzzle editor and NPR puzzle-master Will Shortz. Along the way, the film presents interviews with celebrity crossword puzzlers such as Bill Clinton, Bob Dole and Jon Stewart. And to help celebrate the film's release, there's a great crossword puzzle courtesy of The New York Times.

05/22/06 - Four Rivers
In this strategy puzzle, the challenge is to identify identical tiles which can be paired and thus removed. It's a race against the clock. Less than 4 minutes is average. Less than 3 minutes is good and anything under two minutes is exceptional. Warning!: May be addictive!

05/08/06 - Towers of Hanoi
In this strategy puzzle, the challenge is to move the rings from the 'tower' on the left to the 'tower' on the right. The difficulty is that you can only move one ring at a time and only place a smaller ring on top of a larger ring. If you have never attempted this puzzle before, start with the Easy Version (5 rings), then try the Medium Version (6 rings). Once you've figured out the basic solving strategy, try the Hard Version (7 rings). There's also a Kid's Version (4 rings) for young solvers. Good luck!

04/28/06 - Kakuro Puzzles
The challenge of these Cross Sum Puzzles (Kakuro in Japan) is to fill in the puzzle, using the digits 1 to 9, so that every row and column adds up to their corresponding numerical indicator. No number may repeat in any row or column. Some people find these puzzles as addictive as Sudoku Puzzles

Supposedly, this riddle was created by Albert Einstein and, on average, only 2% of solvers will be successful. Are there any logic puzzle experts out there who can verify the source of this riddle? If so, they can add a comment to the puzzles blog.

Using the clues, enter one of the word fragments (from the syllabary) in each of the 32 boxes to form 8 four-syllable words. When complete the letters in the two diagonal flights of stairs (shaded cells) will spell out a topical subject.
