Puzzling Painting
This oil painting by photorealist, Steve Mills, is five feet wide and almost four feet high and depicts a newspaper puzzle section partially obscured by a pen and pencil, a very beat up crossword dictionary and a magnifying glass. The degree of realism is such that you want to pick up the pencil and start solving. Though it may not be apparent in this photograh, an eyewitness reports that every clue and clue number (and even the article in the section below the puzzle) are perfectly legible. The detail is truly staggering! This painting is for sale at the Granary Gallery on Martha's Vineyard and can be yours for $78,000. For the record, it's the March 23, 2003 edition of The New York Times. The acrostic puzzle is by Cox & Rathvon and the crossword is by Con Pederson. Thanks to Eric Albert for bringing this to my attention.
