Crossword puzzles, which have been a staple to the trivia game world and most major newspapers since their advent by Arthur Wynne in 1913, have long been a killer of idle time. Inspired by the ancient word squares found in Pompeii, crossword puzzles have grown in popularity so much that it has been reported that 40 million Americans sit down and muddle with a puzzle daily.
