I came across this type
of word puzzle in an old issue of GAMES magazine. It may have been invented by Will
Shortz, the current puzzle editor of The New York Times.
Using the clues, enter one of the word fragments (from the syllabary below) in each of the 32 boxes to form 8 four-syllable words. Each word fragment is used only once. When complete the letters in the two diagonal flights of stairs (shaded cells) will spell out a topical subject. I've entered one fragment to start you off.
