Bumblebees Can Solve Complex Color Puzzles |

A new study by University College London researchers R. Beau Lotto and Martina Wicklein suggests that bees can solve complex color puzzles.
In the study, bees were trained to recognize plastic flowers of a particular color. Then, lighting conditions were altered so the flowers appeared to be of a different color. However, the bees were able to find the correct flowers by segmenting the scene into different regions of illumination, a strategy similar to one used by humans and one which computers, as of yet, are unable to duplicate.
The scientists say these findings may provide new understanding of human vision and guide the development of similar systems for robots.
