1859: George Washington Gale Ferris, inventor of the Ferris wheel, is born.
1924: The Computing Tabulating Recording Corporation (CTR) changed its name to IBM.
1946: ENIAC (Electronic Numerical Integrator and Computer), the first large-scale, electronic, programmable computer, was unveiled. It used over 17,000 vacuum tubes, weighed about 30 tons and produced so much heat that it needed its own air-cooling system.
