1934 Nicaraguan revolutionary leader Augusto César Sandino was assassinated.
1952 Political activists in East Pakistan (Bangladesh), who spoke Bengali, were fired upon by police while protestesting the government's decision to establish Urdu as the sole official language of Pakistan. The event is commemorated in Bangladesh as Martyrs' Day.
1965 Black nationalist leader Malcolm X is assassinated.
