My Photomosiac Puzzle Solving Experience

This was the most challenging jigsaw puzzle I've ever completed. The tiny images made it tough to figure out how to sort the pieces by color. I found the images so small that it was hard for me to see them clearly, and I had to keep taking my glasses off to figure out what they were and where they were on the poster, then put them back on to place the piece in its proper spot in the puzzle.

How I Did It:

Brute force. First, I pieced together the edges. Then I tried to sort the pieces by color as best I could. Then, I'd take a fairly distinctive puzzle piece and would go through all the images on the poster until I either located where the piece was supposed to go in the puzzle or gave up and moved on to another piece. If I did find where the puzzle piece went, I'd place it there, even if I didn't have anything for it to interlock with yet. This made for a lot of orphan pieces, but eventually I'd work them into the assembled part of the puzzle. Towards the end, it was easier to determine where a piece went based on its shape rather than its color.

Advice

  • Make sure you have good lighting
  • Don't work on this puzzle when your eyes are tired
